Free SwirlX3D Viewer for VRML, X3D, and other 3D formats

The SwirlX3D Viewer is a free multiformat 3D viewer that displays 3D files in a variety of formats. It is a standalone application that can be used for opening VRML (.wrl), X3D (.x3d and .x3dv), Collada (.dae), 3DS (.3ds), OBJ (.obj), PLY (.ply), and STL (.stl) files. In version 2, the CollView Collada viewer has been integrated into the SwirlX3D viewer, and other 3D formats are now supported.

Collada and 3DS Support
The models from many 3D content creation tools are available in these formats. Now importing these models together with their textures is as easy as opening the file and viewing it. In addition, SwTranslator can be used to save these in either VRML, X3D or Collada format.
OBJ, PLY and STL Files
The output of scanner systems use these file formats. By continually adding new formats, Pinecoast is making it easier and easier to import high quality content into VRML and X3D.
Importing 3D Data
The SwTranslator is an enhanced version of the viewer, that allows models in a variety of 3D formats to be translated into either VRML, X3D or Collada format. See the SwTranslator page.
