Navigation Basics

Walk and Fly Mode

Movement in the Walk and Fly modes are similar except that in Walk mode, the movement is affected by gravity and the avatar follows the ground. Turning to the sides is accomplished with either the left mouse button or the left and right arrows. Forward and backward motion is by the mouse wheel or the up and down arrows. The motion continues until the key or mouse button is released.

For all navigation modes, the PgUp key moves the viewer to the previous viewpoint, and the PgDn key moves the viewer to the next viewpoint. Also the Home key moves to the first viewpoint, and the End key moves to the last viewpoint.

Examine Mode

In Examine mode the object being viewed is rotated. It is rotated to the left and right by either the left mouse button or the left and right arrow keys. Similarly the object is rotated upwards and downwards by either the left mouse button or the up and down keys.

In this mode, forward and backward motion is by either the mouse wheel or the 'a' and 'z' keys.

Box

Use the picture at the left to test the Examine mode rotation. Press the left button of the mouse near the center of the picture and drag it to the right. As the mouse is moved further to the right, the speed of rotation increases. Now drag the mouse slowly left back to the center. The rotation will slow and eventually stop. Dragging further to the left changes the direction of rotation, and finally lifting the left mouse button ends the rotation.

Menu

Menu

The Viewer menu can be accessed by clicking with the right mouse button. This menu can be used to change various settings, such as navigation mode. In particular, the Movement Reset item is used to return to the starting position.
